Lufthansa strike and and other airline news

The hottest aviation-related topic that has made to the headlines these days is the strike of Lufthansa flight attendants. After the first round of the strike action on Friday, the UFO union annouces its members will resume strike.

The second round will affect Lufthansa‘s passengers on Tuesday, September 4, 2012. Just as was the case on Friday, the details will be provided 6 hours ahead of the walkout.

News: New airline routes

Looking for airline news? You are in the right place. We start off with Virgin Atlantic, a carrier associated with long-distance flights. The most recent announcement concerns a short-distance route though.

By March 2013 Virgin Atlantic intends to launch London – Manchester flights and according to a statement from the airline’s CEO, this is just the beginning of the carrier’s short-haul expansion.

Ryanair to reduce its Denmark flights in winter schedule

August 20th, 2012

Read the latest news about the winter schedule of Ryanair. Travellers flying with this low cost airline on its routes from or to Denmark may want to know that as of October 28, when the winter schedule goes into effect, the Danish routes of Ryanair will be cut.

The change will affect Billund Airport as well as Aarhus Airport. Out of 20 routes currently operated from Billund, 8 will be left among others Billund – Barcelona or Billund Malaga.

Ryanair to cut Finland flights, Lufthansa strike and more

Read the hottest airline news. To begin with – Ryanair. This Irish lowcost airline will dramatically reduce its operations to Finland for profitability reasons. The carrier will give up the flights to Turku Airport altogether for the winter season as of November.

In addition the reduction will affect its flights to Tampere and Lappeenranta as well. These will be reduced by half.

Ryanair’s free service. Berlin Airport to face problems

Here come some breaking news from the world of airlines and airports. Flying with the Irish low-cost airline Ryanair? We bet “free of charge” is the last phrase you associate with the its business model. Brace yourself for a surprise.

A couple of days ago Ryanair took aback everyone by announcing it would introduce a free sms service. Although the airline is known for its punctuality, passengers who face delays of over 90 minutes will get free real-time updates on their mobile phones. Thereby the airline departs from its tradition of charging for all optional services.

Ryanair slashes Madrid & Barcelona flights

The Irish low-cost airline Ryanair is on the warpath again. And again the conflict revolves around airport taxes. This time these are Spanish airports that are the setting for the strife between Ryanair and the authorities.

Following an increase in airport taxes in Madrid Airport and Barcelona Airport, Ryanair announced severe cuts and reductions, which the carrier claims will cost Spain well over 2000 jobs.

Time for a dose of news from the aviation world. We start off this week’s post with the Polish flag carrier LOT Polish Airlines. Those of you who fly on the Warsaw – New York route may want to know that as of October 29, 2012, the service will be transferred from Airport Newark to John F. Kennedy Airport.

The Dutch-based leisure carrier Arkefly offers now seasonal flights to the popular Greek destination – Preveza. The Amsterdam – Preveza route is in operation until August 22, 2012. New airline routes and airport news

In today’s cocktail of news items from the world of aviation we start off with British Airways. This flag carrier of the United Kingdom extends two popular routes from London City to year-round services. The services in question are London – Palma and London – Ibiza.

The Irish low-cost airline Ryanair opens new base at Maastricht Airport in winter 2012. The carrier plans to offer 14 routes from its new base. Among them are Maastricht – Bari, Maastricht – Alicante or Maastricht – Faro.
