Weather situation at airports

December 20th, 2010

From all around Europe news are flooding in about travel chaos, cancelled flights and stranded passengers. Crowds of tired travellers are camping in airports waiting for updates concerning their flights.

The worst situation so far seems to be on airports in the United Kingdom, in particular London Heathrow and other London airports as well as Paris Charles De Gaulle, where travellers can expect cancellation of a quarter of flights and Airport Frankfurt where some 500 flights were cancelled on Sunday.

Although more airports is reported to be affected, e.g. Airport Brussels or Airport Prague has cancelled 16 flights so far on Monday in addition to the flights cancelled on the preceding days.

Judging by the flow of Twitter messages, the airlines whose passengers will suffer the greatest problems are British Airways, Air France, Ryanair, Lufthansa or Virgin Atlantic.

Worst yet, more snowfall is expected. Travellers, be prepared to plunge into a new ice age…
