Let us start off the week with a little update on what is happening the world of airports and airlines. First we will have a look at airlines.

Travellers departing from Airport Glasgow may want to know that the low-cost carrier Jet2 recently has added two news services to leisure destinations, both in Greece. Both the Glasgow – Heraklion and Glasgow – Rhodes flights are in operation from now to the end of September.

News: Budapest Airport Terminal 1 to be closed

March 20th, 2012

Even though European airlines were quick to react to the collapse of the Hungarian Malev, it seems as though they have not managed to fill the gap.

As as result of the decrease in traffic and financial losses, the company operating Budapest Airport announced that Terminal 1 would be closed down temporarily. This will also imply postponement of the Cargo City project and redundancies among staff.

Ryanair – more than 150 new routes in 2012

After having been busy expanding to the Spanish and Italian market, the Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair is ready to enter Eastern-Europe more vigorously.

Ryanair serves a significant number of airports in the eastern part of the continent but as Michael O’Leary reveals, this is only the foretaste of the airline’s East-European growth.
