From the start of the winter flight schedule on October 25, 2009 Air Berlin will take over all the German domestic flights of TUIfly as well as the flight network to and from Austria and Italy. As a result of this changeover TUIfly will cease to operate the established bluemiles programme as of October 24, 2009.
In connection with the closing down of the bluemiles programme TUIfly offers its passengers the chance to change to Air Berlin’s topbonus and to benefit also from many other advantages. The passengers who change to topbonus can transfer all the valid status and premium miles they have collected.

Air Berlin PLC has reached its goals for the past business year: Consolidation took place, turnover increased and fleet capacity utilization improved. Furthermore, the airline company announced that the Turkish ESAS Holding A.S. has acquired 15.3 percent of the company’s shares.
Prior to that, TUIfly and Air Berlin had decided to form a strategic alliance for domestic flights and European city connections as of October 1, 2009. In the course of this alliance, a subsidiary of TUI Travel PLC will hold an interest of up to 20 percent in Air Berlin PLC, and, vice versa, Air Berlin will hold an interest of up to 20 percent in TUIfly, via a holding in Hapag Lloyd Fluggesellschaft mbH/Hapag Lloyd Express GmbH. Both of these transactions are subject to the approval of the German Federal Cartel Office.
