March 18th, 2011

It seems as though this year’s spring is somewhat whimsical. The average temperature of 7 °C is far from being the perfect weather for long strolls. And it is under such circumstances that discounted airfares to warmer climes are more tempting than ever. If you ask us what the most interesting airfare deals are these days, the answer is five-day sale from the Manchester–based low-cost airline Thomas Cook Airlines.

The prices have been really slashed and within 5 days you can save as much as £40 (£20 on one ways)! As for the travel period, it spans from April to June whereas the booking period expires midnight Monday (March 31, 2011).

The worst airlines world over

December 16th, 2010

Some time ago we touched upon the subject of the most extreme airports in the world and today we’d like to take a look at some of the worst ranked airlines as ranked by both travellers and independent surveys. We won’t embark on any fully-fledged comparison but rather take a few examples.

By the way, it’s by no means an easy task to compare airlines. Low-cost airlines are a whole different story and we expect something different when flying with classical airlines.

Besides, how to measure the quality of different carriers? British Airways and TAP Portugal may well have one of the worst records in terms of lost baggage and flight delays but they rank better in other areas. Let’s take a look at how how professional bodies approach this issue.

Thomas Cook to charge for checked in luggage

February 24th, 2009

Thomas Cook Airlines announced it will charge its passengers for hold luggage.  The fees will be applicable for all flights-only bookings made from March 2, 2009. Package holidays where a charter flight is included in the price will not be affected by this change.

For short-haul and medium-haul flights the airline will charge £8 (€10)  per passenger per flight, on long-haul flights the fee will increase to £15 per passenger per flight. With introducing the hold luggage fees Thomas Cook Airlines raised the baggage allowance from 15kg to 20kg. Hand luggage allowance remains at 5kg.

The airline has joined a  numerous group of low cost airlines charging fees for checked in luggage. At the moment there are only a few budget carriers that have not introduced these fees so far, but it is expected it will not last long. We can only guess who will be the first traditional airline to start charging for hold luggage as well.
