Berlin Brandenburg further delayed & more airline news

There is no end to the misfortunes around the new Berlin airport. The opening date of Berlin Airport has now been officially postponed even further, to be precise to October 27, 2013. The question that is up in the air is that of whether and how the new financial requirements can be met.

An update on the Lufthansa strike – after three rounds of industrial action, both sides in the conflict agreed on arbitration. On their part the flight attendants of Lufthansa pledged there would be no more labour actions unless the arbitration talks do not reach any conclusion.

Iberia strike: 30 more days of flight disruptions

It is a tough life passengers of the Spanish-based Iberia have. Now they have to brace themselves for even more flight disruptions.

When the announcement about the launch of Iberia Express came, one might have though the troubles were over. The plans to set up this low-cost airline were fiercely opposed by the staff of Iberia which led to a series of strikes over the last months – all this to no avail.

Iberia Express launched. General strike in Spain

This week brings us some exciting news from the world of airlines. Again it is Spain that is the centre of attention.

Finally, the low-cost airline which is an attempt to save the finances of its mother company Iberia, has been launched. Iberia Express is Iberia’s response to its lowcost airlines competitors. According to the website of the new carrier, flights will be on sale from March 28, 2012.

Iberia faces 24 more strike days!

Here comes breaking news. All of you how are sick and tired of Iberia being on strike and well as those who observe the hullabaloo with amusement, may want to know there is going to be many more strike days in March, April and May.

A little reminder for the uninitiated. The current wave of strikes by the pilots of Iberia was sparked off by the carrier’s plans to establish a low-cost airline Iberia Express. The low-budget subsidiary is supposed to repair the finances of Iberia. It will start operations March 25, 2012.

Iberia and Frankfurt Airport on strike again

February 27th, 2012

European travellers are in for yet another week of strikes. Behind this week’s industrial actions is traditionally the Spanish-based Iberia. In additon, thousands of flyers will face the protracted strike at Frankfurt Airport.

After the German airport operator Fraport AG failed to reach an agreement with labour unions, some 200 flights from Airport Frankfurt were cancelled Monday. The renewed strike may continue even until Thursday. Mostly it will affect domestic and European flights with among others Lufthansa.

Iberia’s new low-cost airline & pilot strike

January 24th, 2012

The flag carrier of Spain, Iberia, has announced date of the inaugural flight of its new low-cost subdivision. Iberia Express commences flights on March 25, 2012.

Although the establishing of the new low-cost subsidiary is seen upon as a necessary step for Iberia to be able to compete with such low-budget airlines as Vueling, the plans have been vehemently opposed by the airline’s staff.

Iberia pilot Christmas strike over Iberia Express

Christmas holiday is a busy period in air traffic when air travellers are particularly vulnerable both because it is essential to come home on time and because of the precarious weather conditions. An airline strike is the last thing we need.

Unfortunately we are in for a strike. The threat comes from Iberia, a part of the merged holding company with British Airways. Recently flight crew warned they will walk out on strike for two days on December 18 and 29, 2011.
