Germanwings baggage allowance 2012. An update

Today’s post is an update of Germanwings‘ baggage policy. This German-based low-cost airline announced recently a change which isn’t exactly in keeping with what most no-frills airlines do. They increased the baggage allowance!

This bit of the baggage policy stayed the way it was. When travelling with Germanwings, you’re allowed to carry onto the plane one piece of hand baggage weighing up to 8 kg in and not exceeding 55 x 40 x 20 cm in size.

Lufthansa to fuse Germanwings & Eurowings? Direct 4 You

There is a lot happening in the European aviation recently and airlines going bust is not the only kind of things that grab headlines. Some airlines disappear while new ones emerge.

Lufthansa seems to be going down the same route as Iberia according to the German newspaper Bild. Lufthansa’s financial state forces this giant carrier to look for savings. The plans to merge the routes network of its daughter company Germanwings with parts of Lufthansa’s European routes and brand it as Direct 4 You may be a way of cutting costs.

With start off with Germanwings which is extending its domestic network from Airport Cologne. From now on travellers from Cologne can fly cheap to such destinations as Catania, Rijeka, Tunis and Nador.

News: Budapest Airport Terminal 1 to be closed

March 20th, 2012

Even though European airlines were quick to react to the collapse of the Hungarian Malev, it seems as though they have not managed to fill the gap.

As as result of the decrease in traffic and financial losses, the company operating Budapest Airport announced that Terminal 1 would be closed down temporarily. This will also imply postponement of the Cargo City project and redundancies among staff.

Bucharest Baneasa Airport to be closed

February 28th, 2012

Are you among travellers flying with low-cost airlines to or from Bucharest? Well, a big change is around the corner. It turns out Airport Baneasa will be closed and now the airlines are bracing for move to Bucharest Airport (OTP).

This change will mainly affect the passengers of low-cost airlines such as Germanwing, Wizz Air and Blue Air. Both Wizz Air and Blue Air announced they would start operating from Otopeni Airport as of March 25, 2012.

Germanwings check-in

In today’s post from our informative series exploring how to check in when flying with both popular low-cost carriers and traditional airlines, we will have a look at the German-based low-cost airline Germanwings.

This is the most comfortable way of checking in. In most cases it is available between 72 and 3 hours before the scheduled departure. The exception are German airports (apart from Rostock-Laage Airport and Friedrichshafen Airport) where one can check in as late as 1 hour prior to departure.

In today’s edition of our series on new routes and services from traditional carriers as well as low-cost airlines, we are going to take a look at flights to Sardinia. Sardinia is a very popular leisure destinations which has seen a gradual increase in passenger number in the course of the recent years.

One of the airlines operating Sardinian airports, Ryanair raised the status Cagliari to its designated base. Nevertheless, Ryanair still has not one-upped the traditional Meridiana which tops the list when it comes to scheduled seat capacity on flights to Sardinian airports. Another carrier present on the Sardinian market is Alitalia.

Hi guys, it is time for our weekly preview of the latest development in the world of aviation – new routes and services as well as other news from the low-cost airlines and traditional carriers.

We begin with some breaking figures from Brussels Airport. The summer schedule, which has been in effect for a couple of days, is truly impressive in that it includes as much as 80 airlines operating services to 214 destinations. Among the newcomers is the renowned and constantly expanding Qatar Airways, whereas among the new destinations until recently now available from Brussels are Doha and Liverpool.

Treviso Airport to be temporarily closed in the summer

Have you planned a trip with a stopover in Airport Venice Treviso or maybe you head straight to Venice and that is where you are supposed to land? If the date of your trip is sometime between June 01 and September 30, 2011, you may want to know that the airport is going to be temporarily closed.

The reason for closing the airport is the necessity of performing maintenance work and installing devices allowing planes to land even in unfavourable weather conditions such as thick fog.
