Are you among travellers flying with low-cost airlines to or from Bucharest? Well, a big change is around the corner. It turns out Airport Baneasa will be closed and now the airlines are bracing for move to Bucharest Airport (OTP).
This change will mainly affect the passengers of low-cost airlines such as Germanwing, Wizz Air and Blue Air. Both Wizz Air and Blue Air announced they would start operating from Otopeni Airport as of March 25, 2012.

We though it was high time we devoted one post to the baggage policy of the Bucharest-based Romanian low-cost carrier Blue Air. Conventionally we begin with the issue of carry-on baggage.
When travelling with Blue Air, one is permitted to have one piece of carry-on baggage not exceeding the weight of 7 kilograms and the size of 55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm. Apart from that, one is allowed to have a laptop. The maximum size of the laptop is specified and is as follows: 55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm.

Blue Air Company increased its fleet by another Boeing 737 – 500 aircraft with 126 seats. With this purchase, the fleet has now 9 available airplanes for the flights operated by the company.
“We are glad to inform you the arrival of number nine airplane in our fleet. This Boeing 737 – 500 aircraft has 126 seats and as of this week it operates Blue Air flights. With this new airliner we will be able to increase the frequency of our current destinations and to introduce new flights in the winter schedule for 2009-2010. Moreover, it will enable us to carry on the development of smart flying concept which reflects an enhanced quality and range of services. Only in this summer our company launched 19 new routes”, declared Mr. Adrian Ionascu, General Manager of Blue Air.

On July 2, 2009, Blue Air launched the first company flight headed for the French city of Nice. The flight shall be active between July 2 and September 20, 2009, and, by adding this flight, Blue Air strengthens its position on the European market, by offering an effective solution to those who have wanted to go to the South of France on the Bucharest – Nice – Bucharest route. The launch of this new flight aims at diversifying the connections available to passengers on this route. The price of a ticket starts at 47 Euros/ leg, fees included.
The flight schedule, with a frequency of two flights per week, is as follows: one flight on Thursdays, departing from Bucharest at 17.30 and landing in Nice at 19.15, and the return flight departing at 20.00 and landing at 23.45 in Bucharest.

On the 2nd of June 2009, Blue Air launches a new flight to Valencia along the new direct Blue Air flight: Bacau – Valencia and the return flight every Tuesday and Saturday.
The plane tickets for this route shall have a promotional fee: starting from just 18 Euros/ leg (fees included).
Additionally, the Blue Air passengers are also invited to travel on the Bucharest – Valencia and return route every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday or on the Arad-Valencia and return route every Thursday and Sunday.

Blue Air, the very first Romanian low cost airline, annouced in the following statement cancellation of its flight Bucharest-Milan and modification of flights from Bucharest to Rome and from Bucharest to Bologna:
