Airport Berlin Brandenburg to be severely delayed

It seems as though the much anticipated opening of the new airport for the capital city of Germany will be postponed with as long as a couple of months as a result of fire safety flaws.

The new airport is named after one of the German chancellors: Willy Brandt Airport. Its opening was scheduled to June 3, 2012. It is meant to replace the two existing and aging Berlin airports: Berlin Tegel and Berlin Schonefeld. Now it turns out both the aviation industry and travellers will have to patiently wait even to the second half of August.

Airport strikes in Germany affect Lufthansa flights

March 27th, 2012

Cancellations and delays are causing frustration among travellers at German airports. The airport which is worst hit by today’s nationwide strikes is Airport Frankfurt.

The reason for this state of affairs is the strike action of baggage handlers and security staff as well as walkouts led by the labour union Ver.di at the main German airports. Other affected airports are Airports Berlin, Airports Munich, Airports Cologne, Airports Dortmund, Airports Düsseldorf and Airports Stuttgart.
