Berlin Brandenburg further delayed & more airline news

September 10th, 2012

There is no end to the misfortunes around the new Berlin airport. The opening date of Berlin Airport has now been officially postponed even further, to be precise to October 27, 2013. The question that is up in the air is that of whether and how the new financial requirements can be met.

An update on the Lufthansa strike – after three rounds of industrial action, both sides in the conflict agreed on arbitration. On their part the flight attendants of Lufthansa pledged there would be no more labour actions unless the arbitration talks do not reach any conclusion.

On September 9, 2012 the last bmibaby-operated flight took place. The airline is now history and the vacuum is being filled by the low-cost airline Monarch. Monarch has launched a several new services from East Midlands such as East Midlands – Alicante or East Midlands – Mallorca.

The Spanish-based Iberia offers now domestic flights connecting Airport Barcelona with Valencia again after one year break. The fall of the carrier’s competitor (this is to say – Spanair) has made it profitable to resume the service.
