Read the latest version of this post: Etihad Airways baggage allowance 2012. An update

Hi flyers. Glad you read our blog. In today’s post from our series devoted to the baggage policy of both low-cost airlines and traditional carriers, we will find out how much you cram into your bags when travelling with the award-winning Middle-Eastern carrier Etihad Airways.

Carry-on baggage

One is allowed to carry on board one item of hand baggage weighing up to 7kg and not exceeding the maximum total dimensions of 115 cm (e.g. 60cm x 35cm x 20cm).

In addition to the above one can carry onto air plane what follows:

  • a certain amount of reading matter
  • overcoat, wrap or blanket
  • Handbag, purse or pocket book
  • walking stick or umbrella
  • a small camera
  • crutches/collapsible wheelchair
  • prosthetic devices
  • a portable PC
  • mobile phone

Checked baggage

a)

The hold baggage allowance depends on where you fly. The baggage allowance for all flights apart from flights to or from the United States or Canada, are as follows: the maximum weight of your checked baggage is 23kg whereas the maximum allowed dimensions are 45cm x 72cm x 90cm.

B)

As far as flights originating or arriving in the US or Canada are concerned, the allowance is more generous: 2 bags with the maximum weight of 23kg/50lb for each bag. None of the items can exceed 23kg (50lbs) and maximum total dimensions of 158 cm.

Bear in mind that if you fly on a code-share flight with American Airlines a fee of USD $50 will be collected for the second bag.

Note that if you happen to check-in at the check-in facilities in Abu Dhabi city, you can take advantage of five more kilos on flights to selected destinations. Visit the official website of Etihad Airways to see a full overview of destinations entitling to this additional allowance.
