Malaysia Airlines check-in

It today’s post from our series explaining how to check in when flying with various low-cost airlines and traditional carriers, we are going to look into how to check-in online when travelling with the frequently awarded Malaysian flag carrier – Malaysia Airlines.

Malaysia Airlines online check-in

Malaysia Airlines web check-in option is a real timesaver. When checking in online, you can choose where you are going to seat and print your boarding card. You can check-in groups of up to 9 travellers.

The option is available from 48 hours up to 90 minutes before the scheduled departure. Web check-in is available to all passengers holding a valid e-ticket except for those who travel on the following routes: from Brunei, Kunming, Los Angeles, Xiamen as well as the following sectors: Kuala Lumpur – Los Angeles and Taipei – Los Angeles.

Self-service kiosks

Another option is to head for one of self-service kiosks which enable you to select your seat and print your boarding card. Such a facility is available at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Kuching International Airport and Kota Kinabalu International Airport.

As for the deadline, you can take advantage of self-service kiosks from 48 hours up to 40 minutes before the scheduled departure time for domestic flights and from 48 hours up to 60 minutes before the scheduled departure time for international flights. It does not apply to flights to Los Angeles.

Malaysia Airlines mobile check-in

Go to flymas.mobi on your mobile phone and check in paperless! Your boarding card will be sendt via SMS. It will contain a bar code which you will need at security checkpoints and during boarding. Remember that this option does not enable group check in.

You can check-in using your mobile device from 48 hours up to 90 minutes before departure.

Mobile check-in is available for all domestic flights in Malaysia, flights from Singapore to Langkawi, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu, flights from Kuala Lumpur to Bandar Seri Begawan, Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Yangon, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh, Bangkok, Phuket, Manila, Jakarta, Medan, Bandung, Surabaya, Denpasar-Bali, Yogjakarta.

Last but not least, you can let the airport staff do the check-in. Remember to arrive at the airport two hours before departure for international flights and one hour for domestic flights.
